Marshall Wesley Canaan

July 20, 1947 — June 23, 2023

Marshall Wesley Canaan (Wes), a native to the Longview area, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023 with the guidance of PeaceHealth Hospice.


Wes, as he was known to others, was born in Klamath Falls Oregon on July 20, 1947 to Lydia Mary (Stermer) Wilcox and Robert M. Canaan. He is preceded in death by his mother Lydia Mary Stermer, his father Robert M. Canaan, sister Marsha (Canaan) Young, and grandson Eriq Murillo Martinez.


Wes was inducted into the US Army on November 15, 1966. He was stationed in Mannheim Germany and was Honorably Discharged on October 26, 1968. After his discharge from the Army, Wes went to work for the Weyerhaeuser company, “Pulling Green Chain, Equipment Services, Wood Chip Truck Driver and retired in 2001. Wes graduated from Winlock High School.


Wes found solace and peace watching movies; especially, those from the 1940’s. He loved gardening, science, history, was mechanically inclined and loved to build things, loved to watch nature, and was environmentally conscientious.


Wes is survived by his daughter’s Jennifer L. Canaan, Kimberly Martinez, his daughters’ companion Martin Gonzalez-Flores, his 7 grandchildren and his 8 great grandchildren.
