John Patrick Campbell (Pat) passed away in his residence in
Vancouver WA on January 5th after a short battle with cancer. He is
survived by his brother Paul Campbell, Kathi Prager his daughter
and Palmer Prager his granddaughter. Kathi and Palmer held his
hand as he peacefully passed. His wife Lucille Shastid Campbell
passed away in 2023.
Pat grew up in Guymon Oklahoma with his parents Eva May and
Walter Campbell. He was the oldest of 4 boys, Pat, Eddie, George
and Paul. He worked as a paper boy and in a print shop in his early
years.
Pat attended Oklahoma State University where he got his Bachelors
in Engineering. He also graduated from Crown Zellerbach Paper
School. During his career he worked for Crown Zellerbach,
International Paper Company, Georgia Pacific and Boise Cascade
which were all paper mills. Later he was employed by RUST Pulp and
Paper Group and Charles T Main. He designed and built a special
Japanese paper roll wrap system in which the paper was totally
white with no specks which is important to Japanese writing. He
had articles written about his accomplishments in many pulp and
paper journals.
In Pat’s book he wrote a book about his life. His army career started
in April 1962 and was supposed to be a 6 month active duty
assignment but lasted until October 1968. He was trained in Artillery
but also taught maintenance of wheeled vehicles, engine systems,
Pershing Missile repair etc.
Pat, after his retirement became the project manager for the
Cathlapotle Plankhouse. After the project was over, he was invited to
the White House to meet the president.
Pat enjoyed many hobbies. He loved jokes and had a spreadsheet of
jokes he had collected. He built amazing furniture. He loved HO
gauge model train sets and built a few. He was a golfer and bowler.
Had a few perfect bowling scores in college.
After Lucy and Pat moved to the retirement facility, his management
skills were put to use. He started the Resident Council where
residents take concerns to management, started and managed a
monthly newsletter and played educational movies for the residents
every Saturday night. He had a full life until the end. He will be
greatly missed.
The funeral service will be held at Northwood Park Funeral Home &
Cemetery graveside,January 26, 2025 at 1 PM in Ridgefield WA.
There will be a Celebration Of Life at Cogir of Vancouver in Orchards
at 1 PM in the activity room
