Fa‘aaloalo Ruth Shull, 91, of Longview passed away Feb. 19, 2023, at home, surrounded by the love of family.
She was born April 12, 1931, in Pago Pago, American Samoa, to Simuka Ene Tialino and Makuisa Sale Viale Peapealalo. On June 15, 1951, she married Jack Louis Shull. They moved to the local area in 1980.
Fa‘aaloalo, Samoan for “Respect”, was a homemaker, but also managed a restaurant. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fa‘aaloalo was loving, caring, outgoing, energetic, and had a positive outlook. She was devoted to her family, and cherished her friends and fellow church members.
She is survived by three children, Lululima Jackie Shull and Leo “Ricky” Jake Shull, both of Longview, and Millanetta Simuka Smith of Dillingham, Alaska; 10 grandchildren, Sale Shull (Kindra) of Kalama, Kailana Bloomfeldt (Tyler) and Heather Graves (Ray), both of Kelso, John Trusty and Michelle Crowly, both of Dillingham, Alaska, Stephanie Trusty in Alabama, Jennifer Trusty of Castle Rock, Crystal Plata Cazares of San Antonio, Texas, and Joshua Diaz and Rane Bailey, both in Texas; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Jack in 1994; a daughter, Susi Grace Baily; and Makuisa Peapealalo in 2021, whom she raised as a son.
A viewing is planned from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, March 2 at Steele Chapel, 5050 Mt. Solo Road in Longview. A funeral will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March 3 at the Latter-day Saints Chapel, 1721 30th Ave., in Longview. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. at Longview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will include, Sale Shull, Ray Tramane, Fanupo Peapealalo J., Carson Peapealalo, Lui Tangaro Jr., Sale Peapealalo, Ben Pedro, and Lorenzo Pedro.
