Donald James Fillpot, 84, of Kelso was born Aug. 9, 1937, in Clackamas County, Ore., to Frank and Evelyn (Bentz) Fillpot, and passed away Dec. 4, 2021, in Kelso.
He attended Portland State University, Olympic College and Lower Columbia College. Donald retired after many years with the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Department. He will be remembered for his strength, courage and always being straightforward.
Donald was an avid climber and ascended Mount St. Helens, Mount Adams, Mount Hood, Mount Washington, and Smith Rock in Oregon. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed leatherwork, woodcarving, and was a gun and knife collector. Donald was a longtime member of the Lewis and Clark Muzzle Loaders Gun Club.
On June 23, 1984, he married Phyllis J. Bittner in Oregon City, Ore. She survives him at home. Also surviving are two sisters, Carolyn Lloyd of Oregon City, and Marilyn Buck (Jim) of Dallas, Ore.; two daughters, LeeAnn Googins (Paul) of Longview, and Sheri Fowler (Tim) of Kelso; a son, Christian Saxon (Melissa) of Kelso; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
Donald was preceded in death by a niece, Sheri Keller.
At his request, no service will be held.
Final arrangements were entrusted to Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park.
