In loving memory, the Julian family announces that Dale Lester Julian has crossed the bar to join God in heaven.

In 1954, Dale married Janice Gustafson, and their first child, Kimberly, was born in April 1955. Karla was born in October 1956.

Dale was drafted into the Army and stationed in Berlin. While there, he met Lisa Zeun who had a daughter named Sabine.

They returned to the United States and married in 1962. Their son, Doug, was born in October 1962.

Dale followed in his father’s footsteps and joined the Merchant Marine. This eventually led him to live in SE Alaska, where he raised his family and worked for the Alaska Marine Highway System. He started as a third mate and, through his hard work, became a full captain commanding the M/V Columbia, built in 1974. The Columbia was 418 feet long and was the largest ferry ever built in Puget Sound. Dale captained it for many years until his retirement in 1994.

Before his retirement, Dale married Joanne Ferryman in May of 1980, Joanne has 3 sons Lee, Brian, and Todd.

Dale and Joanne shared many years together, setting up residence in Ridgefield Wa.

It was a busy time for them enjoying their Kids playing high school and college sports, Dale traveling back and forth from Washington to Alaska for work, golfing, fishing, traveling, and, of course, good food and a cold beer or two along the way.

After his retirement in 1994, Dale and Joanne spent many winters in Mexico, where they had a condo and indulged in various activities. After Mexico, they embraced the snowbird lifestyle, settling in Mesa, Arizona, near old high school friends

and forging new connections effortlessly. Finally settling in a condo in Ridgefield Wa. to be among friends and family.

Dale’s surviving family members include his wife Joanne, his daughter’s Kimberly (Jeff), Karla (Paul), his son Doug(Janine), daughter Sabine, his sister Dianne(Mike), Dawn(Fred),and step son’s Lee, Brian(Kama) and Todd(MoRaya) and his numerous grandchildren complete his

close-knit family.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Gunner and Katherine, brother Doug, his sister in law Patsy and niece Jamie.

Dale was adored by his vast extended family and friends, and he will forever be remembered as the person who always found humor in everyday situations. His infectious laughter and the moment he

began singing his favorite song, or tell an old sailor story will remain etched in everyone’s memory.

Celebration of life will be 2-4pm Saturday, 8/22 at Royal Oaks country club, 8917 NE 4th Plain Blvd Vancouver Wa. Business casual attire requested.
