Curtis R. Pederson, born July 1, 1946, in Everett, Washington, passed away peacefully in hospice, surrounded by love, on February 18, 2026.
Curt shared sixty-one wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Patricia, the center of his life and his greatest partner. He was a devoted and proud father to Jeff Pederson and Jill Saltz (Mike), and a deeply loving grandfather to Jack, who brought him immense joy.
His family was his greatest treasure, and he showed his love through steadiness, support, quiet strength, and unwavering presence.
He was the son of Palmer and Mildred Pederson and grew up in a close, loving family alongside his siblings, Karen, Paul, Christine, Marguerite, Mark, and Mary.
Curt graduated from Cascade High School and pursued his education with dedication and purpose. He earned an Associate of Arts in Professional Management from Edmonds Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in Public Administration, cum laude, from the University of Puget Sound, and a Master of Public Administration from Seattle University. He also completed the Washington State Executive Management Certification at the University of Washington.
Curt devoted his professional life to public service and leadership, earning the respect of colleagues across government and higher education. He served as the University of Portland's Chief Information Officer. Before that, he was Vice Provost and Chief Information Officer at Oregon State University and Chief Information Officer for the Oregon University System. He also served as the Oregon State Government's first Chief Information Officer and helped guide the state into a new era of technology.
Earlier in his career, he held leadership roles with Washington State
Department of Labor and Industries and Thurston County Government and began his career with Snohomish County PUD.
Despite his professional accomplishments, Curt remained humble, kind, and deeply devoted to helping others. After retiring from the University of Portland, he continued serving his community by volunteering at A Caring Closet in Vancouver, Washington, where he quietly made a difference in others' lives.
Curt will be remembered for his gentle strength, integrity, wisdom, and deep love for his family. He lived a life of service, compassion, and quiet dignity, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Private family services will be held later.
