Rebecca (Becky) L Gerald

March 12, 1954 — May 9, 2021

Rebecca L. Gerald – 67 - passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Mother’s Day, May 9, 2021 at Peace Health Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, WA.

She was born on March 12, 1954 in Sheldon, IA to Steven Hunter and Evelyn Eich. She was the youngest from a large family.

She is survived by her husband of 36 yrs., Ray Gerald at home. Her son Tim (Tamara) Gerald of Portland, OR. Her brother Gregory (Barbara) Hunter of Spanaway, WA, and a sister Cindy (Dale) Valentine of Idaho. Grandchildren: Emilee, Seth, Olivia, Katlin, Parker and Frankie. Numerous nieces, nephews and many precious friends. Also survived by her fur babies Max and Teddie.

She worked at the cable tv office and flagged oversized loads in Umatilla, OR before moving to Rainier, OR. There she worked at the Trojan Nuclear Plant as a document specialist for 5-6 yrs. and also for the Rainier Post Office.

She had the biggest heart. After retiring from a paid job, she became a community service advocate. She worked many hours helping the less fortunate in our area, giving clothes, food or whatever was needed. She regularly took goodies to the firefighters in honor of 911 and thank them for their service. She organized a yearly service project to take 100 sacks filled with essentials and food to the homeless in our area. She spent many hours obtaining donations of toothbrushes, toothpaste, toiletries, sanitizers, first aid kits etc. to fill those bags. She did this all-in honor of her grandson Austin who passed away at age 18.

She was also very talented and artistic. She always had some type of project going. During the pandemic she made over 3,000 masks to give to nursing homes, hospitals, Community House on Broadway and different organizations. At Christmas she made 100’s of chocolate sleighs made from Hershey kisses and distributed to kids in need in our community. Some of her last projects were designing crosses out of cut glass and stuffed bears made from loved one’s clothes.

She was a friend to all. She was an excellent listener and always had time to help a friend. She would spend hours making meals for her friends in need. She lived in a senior community and she would bake goodies delivering them to residents in her little red wagon. She definitely will be missed by all.

Her greatest love were her children and grandchildren. She spent hours bragging about them and sharing photos with friends. She was so proud of them all.

Proceeded in death by her parents, many sisters and brothers, her son Stephen and her beloved grandson Austin.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, June 7, 2021 in the Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park at 2:00 pm with a reception following.
