FLOYD NEIL ”BUDDY” GREENWALD
December 30, 1932 ˜ August 1, 2021

Floyd (Buddy) Neil Greenwald passed to his heavenly home Sunday, August 1 at the age of 88 surrounded by loved ones. Buddy was born Dec. 30, 1932, to Frank and Willie Neil Greenwald in Edinburg, TX, in the home behind the family gas station. He was the second oldest of five children. He is survived by his wife, Marla; daughters, Kitty and Janell; son, Kerry. He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip. Buddy loved sports. During his school years he played football, ran track, and boxed. He enlisted in the Army after high school and served 39 years, ten months and seven days. During his enlistment and while in Vietnam, he was injured in the line of duty and received the Purple Heart. During that time, he also met his lovely wife Marla and they married upon his return from Vietnam. They lived the military life moving to Ft. Bragg, NC; Yakima and Kent, WA; Oahu, HI; and Chicago, IL, before settling in Vancouver, WA, in 1987. If that was not enough to keep him busy, during this time Janell and Kerry were born, he went back to school and received his college degree in Communications and History from Central Washington University and always had at least two or three jobs working evenings and weekends. His jobs ranged from owning a donut shop to selling shoes to real estate and mortgages. Buddy retired from the military in 1991. But the military was still very much a part of his life. He found a way to help veterans with VA home loans.

One of the greatest joys in Buddy’s life was his grandchildren. He was so very proud of them and never missed a game or activity. He cherished the opportunity to let you know a score or achievement but was also there to lift them up when things didn’t go as they hoped. He was the best grandfather and taught them all how to be kind, compassionate and understanding individuals.

Buddy loved road trips, the American flag, and all things patriotic. He proudly stood at every game to salute and honor the flag as many will attest. He touched so many people. He never said a bad word about anyone and would go out of his way to help someone in need. Buddy will be missed by so many.

Buddy, you are on the best road trip. Sit back and enjoy the ride with those who have gone before you.
