David Leroy Oswald

David LeRoy Oswald passed away unexpectedly at home on March 13, 2021. He was born on January 4, 1940 in Dubuque, Iowa to LeRoy and Eileen Oswald. He moved to the northwest when he was stationed at McChord Air Force Base. He resided in Longview for 60 years working at Weyerhauser and retired from Reynolds Aluminum in 2001. He umpired in the local area for 52 years. During his time in the Lower Columbia Umpires Association, he was Umpire and Chief for 25 years. He umpired youth, high school, and college softball and baseball. He umpired at the National level for high school softball and is in the National Softball Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He did community services as a member of the Kelso Elks and was also the Exalted Ruler 1995-1996. He was Director of the Free Throw Competition and involved in other community events. He was Elk of the Year in 2002.

In retirement, he enjoyed spending winters in Arizona playing golf, umpiring softball, singing during Friday Night Music Nights and enjoying the company of all of his friends from all over the US and Canada.

He leaves behind his wife, Mary Oswald, son Blaine Oswald (Janet), son Doug Oswald (Kim), Steven Oswald, daughter Vonda Oswald, daughter Rhonda Davis, daughter Cindy Benedict, son Greg Benedict (Lorena), daughter Lisa Galindo, brothers Leonard Oswald, Donald Oswald, John Oswald, Danny Oswald, sister Elaine Oswald (deceased). Previous marriage to Marlene Diedrich (deceased).

He kept himself busy in Washington umpiring, golfing, and spending lots of time with the grand kids and great grand kids. His Grandchildren are: Amber, Samantha, Corey, Brian, Fred, Erika, Kyle, Kelsey, and Jaxon. Great Grandchildren: Julian, Maria, Yasmin, Alma, Tysen, Teresa, Grayson, Jolie, Charlotte, and Conner.
